Old School British Army

Having been collecting 70's, 80's and 90's British Army Kit for years - I have decided to add some vehicles to the collection too.

First up Tamiya's venerable old Chieftan and Italeri/Revell's Series 3 Land Rover.Quick build straight out of the box - no problems with fit and straight into primer.

Initially I used Tamiya's Nato Green XF67- but I think its too green for the old green which faded quite badly over time...

...so I re-primed in black and shot on a coat of Tamiya Field Grey XF65 which is a better match. (Thanks Pete!) - lightening it white a few drops of white to highlight.

I followed that with Tamiya Rubber Black XF85 for the black patches - sprayed freehand through the airbrush and again lightened with a few drops of white to fade it.
The canvas tilt on the Land Rover was painted Tamiya Khaki XF49 with the same highlighting technique.

Certainly looks like the faded green on my old Lightweight Land Rover anyway.

Panzer IV build finished

The Tamiya vintage Panzer IV ausf D build has been finished.

Once again I used the stowage set from Black Dog models to speed up the build. Although it was specifically for the Panzer III it still fits the Panzer IV.

I opened up the turret stowage bin and added a few bits and pieces from the spares box.

I added some Italeri jerrycans in a rack to the top of the turret.

It has now been added to the paint queue - eek better get painting soon!

Third D.A.K. build done

Construction completed on the Tamiya Hanomag. Just added basic details and no photoetch. The chain on the logs had disintegrated so I added a bit of real chain instead.

Once again Black Dog models and Red Zebra models accessories have been used to speed up the build.

So it joins the queue for the paint shop! Better get the sand coloured paint in!

Second D.A.K. build done

Second Afrika Korps vehicle to be done is the Tamiya BMW R75 .

Added a few details from rod, wire and scraps from the spares box. I also used a couple of the german bags from the amazingly detailed Red Zebra resin accessories.

So it now joins the paint queue with the panzer ll.

and on to the next vehicle.

First D.A.K. build done.

So the no frills - speed builds D.A.K. collection begins. Starting with the Tamiya Panzer 2 (again!) with a Black Dog resin stowage set thrown on and a few bits and pieces from the spare box.

The idea is to build as many models on a specific theme as my sanity can muster as quickly as possible - using minimal extras (ie: photoetch).

Time on build and detailing is kept to a minimum so 'advanced modeller syndrome' doesn't get a chance to fester.

Going back to the roots of modelling - fun, fun, fun!

Hopefully several models will be completed together so I can batch paint the lot of them.
...on to the next kit.
